Introduction

The Smartbills mobile app brings full expense management to your phone. Available on both iOS and Android, the app lets you capture receipts with your camera, track expenses in real time, and stay on top of approvals, all from your pocket. It is designed to complement the web dashboard, giving you the flexibility to handle expenses wherever you are.

Key Mobile Features

The mobile app includes several capabilities that are specifically designed for on-the-go use.

Camera Receipt Scanning

Point your phone camera at any paper receipt to capture it instantly. Smartbills uses OCR to extract the merchant name, date, amount, taxes, and line items automatically. You can scan multiple receipts in quick succession using burst mode.

Push Notifications

Stay informed with real-time push notifications for expense approvals, rejections, report status changes, and approval requests. You control exactly which notification types are enabled. See Notifications for configuration details.

Offline Mode

Biometric Login

Secure your account with Face ID, Touch ID, or Android fingerprint authentication. Once biometric login is enabled, you can open the app without entering your password each time while keeping your expense data protected.

Share Sheet Integration

Forward receipts to Smartbills directly from other apps using the iOS Share Sheet or Android Share menu. This works from your photo gallery, email apps, messaging apps, and any other app that supports sharing images or PDFs.

App Navigation

The mobile app is organized around four bottom tabs that give you quick access to every major section.

Home

Your personalized dashboard. The Home tab displays a summary of recent activity, pending tasks, quick-action buttons for scanning receipts and creating expenses, and any items that need your attention such as pending approvals or rejected expenses.

Expenses

View and manage all of your personal expenses. This tab mirrors your Expenses on the web dashboard. You can filter expenses by date range, category, or status, tap into any expense to view its details, and edit or delete expenses as needed.

Transactions

A chronological feed of all your expense-related transactions. This tab provides a timeline view of your financial activity, making it easy to find a specific purchase or review spending over a given period. Access your profile, settings, expense reports, approvals, and additional features. The Menu tab is your gateway to:
  • My Expense Reports: Create, view, and submit expense reports
  • Approvals: Review and act on pending approval requests
  • Company Expenses: Access the shared company inbox (if you have permission)
  • Settings: Configure notifications, receipt forwarding, biometric login, and app preferences
  • Help & Support: Contact the Smartbills support team
  • Sign Out: Log out of your account

Mobile and Web Together

The mobile app and web dashboard are fully synchronized. Any action you take on one platform is immediately reflected on the other:
Use the mobile app for day-to-day receipt capture and quick expense reviews. Use the web dashboard for administrative tasks, bulk operations, and detailed reporting.
