Overview
Smartbills sends push notifications to keep you informed about expense activity that needs your attention. You can control exactly which types of notifications you receive, set up quiet hours to avoid interruptions, and manage email notification preferences separately from push notifications.Notification Types
Smartbills supports the following push notification types:Configuring Push Notifications
You can enable or disable each notification type individually.1
Open Notification Settings
Tap the Menu tab in the bottom navigation, then go to Settings > Notifications.

Toggle Notification Types
Each notification type has its own toggle. Tap the toggle to enable or disable that specific notification. Changes are saved automatically.

Verify Device Permissions
Smartbills needs permission from your operating system to send push notifications. If notifications are not arriving, check your device settings:
- iOS: Go to Settings > Notifications > Smartbills and ensure Allow Notifications is enabled
- Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Smartbills > Notifications and ensure notifications are allowed
Notification Channels
iOS
On iOS, Smartbills notifications appear as:- Lock screen alerts: Visible on your lock screen and in the Notification Center
- Banners: Brief alerts at the top of the screen when the phone is unlocked
- Badge count: The red badge on the Smartbills app icon shows the number of unread notifications
- Sounds: An optional notification sound (configurable in iOS notification settings)
Android
On Android, Smartbills uses notification channels to give you granular control:
Each channel can be independently configured with its own importance level, sound, vibration pattern, and LED color through Android Settings > Apps > Smartbills > Notifications.
Email Notification Preferences
Email notifications are managed separately from push notifications. You can receive email digests for the same event types listed above, on a different schedule.1
Open Email Preferences
In the Notifications settings screen, scroll down to the Email Notifications section.

Select Email Event Types
Toggle which event types are included in your email notifications. These toggles are independent of your push notification preferences, you can receive push notifications for approvals but email notifications only for rejections, or any other combination.
Email notification preferences can also be managed from the web dashboard under Settings > Profile > Notification Preferences. Changes made on either platform sync automatically.
Do Not Disturb Schedule
Set up quiet hours during which Smartbills will not send push notifications. Notifications received during quiet hours are silently delivered and appear in your notification history when the quiet period ends.1
Enable Do Not Disturb
In Menu > Settings > Notifications, scroll to the Do Not Disturb section and enable the toggle.

Set Your Schedule
Choose the start and end times for your quiet period. For example, set 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM to silence notifications overnight.

Choose Active Days
Select which days of the week the Do Not Disturb schedule applies. You can enable it for every day, weekdays only, weekends only, or any custom combination.
Notification History
To view past notifications:- Tap the bell icon on the Home tab
- The notification history screen shows all recent notifications grouped by date
- Tap any notification to navigate directly to the related expense, report, or approval
